News on Putsy from around Australia
From the ABC website 26 Nov 2012
Gary Putland took match figures of 12
for 92 to bowl South Australia to a nine-wicket win over Victoria in the
Sheffield Shield clash at the MCG on Monday….
Left-arm swing bowler Putland picked up 5 for 28 off
25 overs in Victoria's second innings.
South Australia is celebrating its first Shield win at
the MCG since 1998 and its second victory for the season, climbing to fourth on
the table on 12 points.
Putland in Test frame after destroying Vics

RELENTLESS left-arm paceman Gary Putland
has been hailed as a legitimate Test prospect after his 12-wicket haul– the
best at the MCG in 42 years– inspired South Australia's Sheffield Shield
thrashing of Victoria.
The 26-year-old was not only dangerous
against the Bushrangers' batsmen but also economical thanks to his unerring
accuracy. Of the 62 overs he bowled in the match, 28 were maidens, whereas the
entire home bowling attack managed only 19 from 126.
Putland does not boast express pace.
Nevertheless, Victoria assistant coach Simon Helmot said his performance was a
reminder "that if you present the seam and bowl in a consistent area, you
can get some wickets"…..
The left-armer's figures of 12-92 were the
best by a South Australian for 11 seasons, since fellow left-armer Paul Rofe's
13-112, and No.7 on the all-time list at the MCG.
The last bowler to fare better there was
Ross Turner, who claimed 13-125 for Queensland in November 1970.
Putland has primarily been hailed for his
limited-overs prowess but this match took his Shield record after 15 matches to
63 wickets at an average of 24.2, with six five-wicket hauls – form Berry
reckoned should be noted by national selectors.
"He is a serious bowler, a left-armer
who can bring it back to the right-handers. Mitchell Johnson, when he's good,
he can do that, but when he's not on song, he can't. I know Mitchell Starc and
Mitchell Johnson are the two who are right up in the frame at the moment.
Seriously, Gary Putland, in my opinion, would be an ideal Ashes bowler next
year," Berry said.
"He swings it back to the
right-hander, he angles it across, he bowled some unplayable balls this game.
He should be (talked about) in the same vein as Jackson Birds and Josh
Hazlewoods."

SHEFFIELD SHIELD: South Australia's
cricketers are poised for their first Sheffield Shield win at the MCG since
1998 after a 10-wicket performance from swing bowler Gary Putland.
Victoria will resume on the final
day tomorrow on 6-86, requiring a further 11 runs to make the Redbacks bat
again.
South Australia had reduced the
Bushrangers to 6-41 before a stubborn seventh-wicket stand of 45 between John
Hastings (10 not out) and Peter Handscomb (32no) in 68 minutes.
Putland, who took 7-64 off 36 overs in
Victoria's first innings, claimed the key scalps of Glenn Maxwell (0), David
Hussey (6) and Cameron White (0).
The left-armer has proved almost
impossible to score off, with figures of 3-14 from 15 overs…

The grade cricket scene in South Australia (and across the country) is changing rapidly. Most clubs rely on too few people to do too much, and our club is no different. Only by pulling together all of our collective efforts, sharing our successes & failures, and collectively supporting our club on and off the field can we hope to flourish.
The idea of this newsletter moving forward is to share brief reflections of the previous rounds results from all teams, celebrate outstanding individual performances, and bring together as much news and information from around our great club as possible. All sides are invited to nominate a player to share the highlights of their previous round matches (150 words max) by the following Tuesday of the conclusion of that round.

PUTSY HERO IN SA WIN
FROM CRICINFO
South Australia's 25-year drought without a one-day title ended with a thrilling tie that delivered them the Ryobi Cup in the final in Adelaide. In a remarkable last over, Tasmania needed five runs for victory but managed only four as Gary Putland held his nerve to take the key wicket of the centurion George Bailey and then denied the new batsman James Faulkner the runs he required.
