Barrett, Garret and Joraslafsky Score U19's Birth

Southern District will be represented by three players this year at the U19 national carnival. Garrett (94*) and Barrett (96*) put together a huge partnership on Sunday to sink Northern District in a one day fixture, underlining their value to the young Redback side.

SACA high performance have been forced to reward Tom Joraslafsky with his first selection in several years through standout performances over the past 18 months. Tommy J destroyed the B grade competition last year, taking out the Bowling trophy and best player award. He has formed part of Southern's 3 prong spin attack this season, holding his own already in an unbeaten A grade side.

Congratulations to all three lads who travel later this month, and will be sorely missed during the clubs all important encounter with Sturt in round six.

Ifould Turns Back Clock to Extend Unbeaten Run

Stingray veteran opener Justin Ifould turned back the clock to post his 6th A grade century for Southern District. Chasing Uni's first innings target of 160/9dec, Southern were at their disciplined best as Danny Irvine (74) and Ifould (100*) patiently chipped away at the target. After Irvine swept the ball onto his stumps, Paul Roberts continued his fine form peeling off a quick 35 to see the Stingrays home for there 4th straight win this season, extending an 8 game winning streak lasting back to last season.

Earlier in the match Dean Chambers made short work of Uni's state representatives claiming 5 wickets well supported by Redback Gary Putland who claimed 2 wickets.

In the B's Nick Bowen made an unbeaten 52* to lead the Stingray bats to 175 at Bice oval in a game where Uni certainly could lay claim to the "best" of the wet conditions. A rejuvenated "Frank the Tank" was well supported by Scott Heywood (43) and Jack Taylor (42) in difficult conditions. With the ball Sheidow Park's Jarryd "Jibber" McCormack ran amok claiming his first B grade 5 wicket haul. Daniel Rogers leg spin was crucial in claiming two key wickets to swing the match back to Southern after it appeared as though Uni would cruise to the target.

The C grade achieved an all important outright result in an all round team performance. Stand in skipper Chris O'Connor claimed 4 wickets in the first innings to lead the stingrays to a first innings lead. Keeper Dylan Wright made 42 and was the best of the bats supported by C grade debutant Tom Philips and Jamie Robshaw coming off a fine hundred in round 2. Blake Trigg, Rhys Button and Sean Williams all chipped in with vital 2nd innings wickets as Uni's carefree batting saw them bundled out for just 112, a lead of 62, which the Ray's knocked off with 2 overs to spare.

The D grade again fell well short of anything that could remotely be considered competitive as they lost outright at CBHS. Sent in on a very wet wicket in the first dig, constant wickets saw the side bundled out for just 85, club coach Abe Moore contributing 55. Uni passed the score for just 6 wickets and on day two set a modest lead of 40. This was more than enough in the end as the young Stingray side succumbed for an embarrassing 23 runs. Now at 2-2, the D's will be chasing a much needed victory against East Torrens this week to right the poor showing in the past two matches.

Stingrays Smack Pirates At Adelaide Oval

Southern continued its recent good form with a comprehensive T20 win against Prospect in Round 3 of the XXXX Gold competition.

Paul Roberts (39) and Joel Garrett (33) set up the innings, with the Rays finishing at 6/107.

The Pirates were never in the hunt, Spinners Shaun Tanner (2/9) and Tom Joraslafsky (4/10) taking advantage of some ordinary batting which saw Prospect bowled out for just 68.

Sturt sit atop the table after defeating Southern in rnd 2. A Sturt loss to Adelaide and a win for Southern against Glenelg will see the Rays into the final on superior net run rate.

Video highlights of the encounter can be seen on the StingrayTV YouTube channel by following the links from www.stingrays.com

Snaperazzi import Grant "Herschelle" Broadhurst captured some quality pics that can be seen at the following link:

Stingrays Strangle Adelaide To Continue Streak

Southern recorded its 7th consecutive victory in two day cricket, and 3rd win from as many starts this season against Adelaide at Bice Oval. The Buffs were no match for the Stingrays bowlers who strangled all life from the game after posting 202 with the bat thanks to a Justin Ifould half century. Ifey was well supported by Lewis Hill (43) and Danny Irvine (23) who both contributed in key partnerships. Simon Roberts was the pick of the bowlers with 2 wickets and direct hit run out, with fellow spinners Shaun Tanner and Tom Joraslafsky also chipping in with key wickets. Paul Roberts mark his return to A grade with 2 wickets and a patient opening stand with Ifould. The A grade face a bigger challenge this week against University, who have had the wood over Southern in recent years in 2 day cricket. Gary Putland returns from Redback duties to lead the attack, with the A grade looking to consolidate a position in the top 4.

The B grade suffered a narrow loss after an unbeaten 77 by Skipper Jason Riley wasn't enough for the Rays to chase the Buffaloes target, eventually falling 5 runs short in the chase. Earlier Shaun McIvor continued his impressive start to the season taking 3/26.

The C grade suffered a similar fate dropping their first game for the season, failing to chase a reasonably small target at CBHS, only skipper Steve Kerr showing any real resistance with the bat making 40no. Earlier Blake Trigg and Daniel Rogers did the damage, both picking up 3 wickets.

The D grade has their pants pulled down at Park 23, after restricting Adelaide to 230 on a small, fast outfield and reasonable pitch, the Ds were bowled out in just 75 minutes for a meagre 47 runs. Captain Joel Ashforth taking 4 wickets and showing the only resistance with the bat.

With many injuries and other obligations affecting player selection, the C/D's will be trying to hang in with more competitive performances until after the Test match when the club hopes to field a full list for the first time this year.
