After losing the toss and being asked to field in 41deg heat in week one of the match against Sturt, the weather did a 180deg switch when persistent rain ended any chance of a result before play could comence. Chasing 290 for victory, SDCC were robbed of an opportunity to push for victory against the ladder leaders.
In the B grade, Sturt were cruising towards victory at 2-137 (chasing a paltry 196 at Bice Oval) when a brain fade from the Sturt Captain kicked off an embarrasing collapse that saw Sturt loose 8 for 40 in the final session. Sturt were without an answer to form spinner Tom Joraslafsky, who destroyed the blues middle order on a wicket offering turn and bounce, claiming 5-33 off 23 overs. Outstanding catches from short leg Danny Irvine and keeper Toby Viney further inspired the Stingray magoo's, who have now squared their season ledger at 2-2.
The C grade never got on ground at the uncovered Unley oval, sharing the points to remain unbeaten this season.
In the Ds at CBHS inspirational skipper Joel Ashforth rallied his team to their 2nd win of the season, with Blake Trigg and batting prodigy Stephen Wheatland knocking off the 15 runs they required for victory in trying conditions. The win was set up last week by a Jarrod McCormack hatrick and a Courtney Bain 5 for.
T20 skipper Shaun Tanner leads the Stingrays in an encounter at Glenelg on Tuesday night. All other grades will train as normal at Bice Oval from 5:30pm.
