U16 Reds Vs Woodville - Grand Final Team

Congratulations to our U16 Reds side who defeated West Torrens in last weekends semi final to book a place in the GF against top placed Woodville (at Woodville Oval from 1:30pm this Saturday and Sunday). The boys last encounter with the Peckers ended in a narrow 1 wicket loss, so this game promises to be a good one. The club encourages all supporters to get along and support our flagship junior side, many of whom will transition into senior ranks next season.

SDCC U16 Reds vs Woodville @ Woodville Oval (12:30pm for a 1:30pm start):

Austin Zrim; Ben Layton; Daniel Bruce; Alex Cornelius* (wk); Isaac Tierney; Andy Steele; Will Greenshields; Bryn Loots; Mitch Farquhar; Tom Hynes; Warren Schutt; Josiah Grzyb; Rory Hanson (13th)

The team welcomes back Tom Hynes who has recently played for his school side, and made his A grade debut in the final round. Rory Hanson is the unlucky player to miss out.

We wish the boys the best of luck, and hope they enjoy the experience of playing in a district cricket grand final.

JB Wins CW Walker

Congrats to A grade Vice- Captain Josh Barrett who has won the CW Walker memorial trophy for this season. JB is the second Stingray to win the award following Shane Deitz in season 2004/05. JB also finished the year as our leading run scorer with 386 runs @ 27.57.

The CW Walker Memorial Trophy for the most outstanding wicket-keeper was awarded to Josh Barrett from Southern District who polled 187 votes. Barrett polled ahead of Tea Tree Gully’s Tim Davey (185 votes) and East Torrens Mark Eichler, who polled 182 votes.

Southern District crowned Women's Twenty20 Champions
Monday 4 March 2013
The Southern District Stingrays claimed a remarkable victory over Tea Tree Gully/Northern Districts at Adelaide Oval yesterday, to earn their first Women’s A Grade Twenty20 Cup. Heading in to the game as underdogs, the young Stingrays team showed experience beyond their years against a seasoned opponent in TTG/ND.
TTG/ND won the toss and sent Southern District in to bat in hope of bowling them out for a low total. It looked to be a good decision as they claimed some early wickets to have the Stingrays in trouble at 4/24. Opener Jessica O’Reilly made a solid 22 and started to build a decent partnership with Kylie Rattray, before their partnership ended at 39 as O’Reilly was dismissed by Chloe Scheer (1/20). Rattray looked in great touch at the crease as she blasted a match winning 43* runs from 41 balls to help take the Stingrays total to an impressive 107. Jess Fiebig, Cara Fiebig, Neisha Iles and Ainslee Knight each took one wicket for TTG/ND.
In reply, TTG/ND made a decent start thanks to openers Brittany Perry (16) and Stephanie Morrison (18). But the Stingrays looked dangerous in the field, and when Rattray stumped Perry which was followed soon after by an incredible run out from Tabatha Saville, the momentum was well and truly with Southern District. The TTG/ND middle order failed to put any runs on the board thanks to some great bowling from Georgia Weatherspoon (2/9) and Jessica O’Reilly (2/3). TTG/ND was eventually dismissed for 47 and Southern District was crowned the 2012/13 Women’s A Grade Twenty20 Champions.

A GRADE T20 PREMIERSHIP

The A grade Women's team have won the T20 final played at Adelaide Oval on March 3.

We batted first making 107 with Kylie Rattray making 43 no (41 balls), Jess O'Reilly 22, Georgia Weatherspoon  and Kayla McGrath 9 each.

At one stage TTG / Northern were 0/36 (7.1 overs) to be dismissed for 47 seven overs later.  Kelly Armstrong took the figures with 2/3 combined with three run outs gave us a win with six overs to spare.

Star Stingray earns Powerade Player of the Round
Content Image Placeholder
An outstanding individual performance by Southern District Stingrays Under 14 White representative Cooper Semple has earned himself the Powerade Player of the Round in their round seven match against the East Torrens Reds. Cooper dominated the Reds bowling attack, putting on a score of 175 runs from and incredible 120 balls. His innings included an impressive 22 fours and 9 sixes.
East Torrens won the toss and sent Southern District in to bat first. The Reds claimed an early wicket to have the Stingrays at 1/6 when Cooper came to the crease. He immediately began to put runs on the board as wickets continued to fall around him. Matthew Bakker (10) and Joel Chapman (14) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures. Cooper scored his runs at an amazing rate, knowing full well he would likely run out of partners. When Cooper was finally dismissed, his side were 9/237 and were eventually bowled out for 242. His unbelievable innings was almost enough to get his side across the line, but some late heroics from the East Torrens batsmen meant they chased down the total nine wickets down.
Cooper will be automatically included in the Powerade Junior Team of the Year and will be awarded a 'Powerade Junior Cricketer of the Round' pack at Southern District. He will also be invited to attend a function at the Adelaide Oval at the end of the season, acknowledging him, along with other nominees throughout the year, of their outstanding performances over the season.

Welcome to the 8th edition of The Sting for 2012/13. You can read this edition or download it HERE. All editions of The Sting are available online for viewing, simply follow the links from our website.

It has been a busy few weeks with the BankSA U17 and U14 carnivals being held, quiz night, strategic and sponsorship planning for next season already underway, on top of our regular round matches.
Congratulations to Cooper Semple who’s 175 vs East Torrens was the highest ever score by an U14 player in the clubs history. He narrowly bettered the 171 set by Shaun Newell in 2004/05. It is also the 3rd highest junior score overall for the club. Well done Cooper!

A big thank you to all who supported the recent Quiz Night. It was a fun family atmosphere. Special thanks to Nancy Allen and Jo Lyons who organized all the prize baskets. We had over 70 participants and lots of new faces to the club.

At the time of print our U14 BankSA team was undefeated with excellent wins against TTG, Adelaide and Northern Districts. Keep up the good work lads!
