Stingrays Spring Clean

Volunteers Make Ready for Season 2010-11

In preparation for the start of outdoor training and first matches an army of Stingray volunteers set about tidying up and setting up the training facilities at Bice Oval.

Working with newly appointed curator Brenton Maiolo and Jason Riley, Management Committee's Grounds Coordinator the team of volunteers manicured the hardwicket nets, placed all turf net poles into place, moved one sight board onto the ground and mowed all surrounds.

All volunteers were thankful for the head start Fern Nizzola provided them by removing much of the winter growth. The club is grateful for Fern's efforts.

The club also appreciated the assistance from the Christies Beach Football Club in uprighting one of the sightboards that had blown over in strong winds, thanks to Mick O'Neill and Rusty Mundy.

This annual ritual marks the start of the season and the handover from football to cricket.

Those that have been to the ground would have seen significant work undertaken by the City of Onkaparinga contractors Belair Turf. In a new initiative they have used a compost based soil mixed with sand to top soil the oval. Added to this Brenton Maiolo and turf wicket consultants TK Services have scarifide and top soiled the centre and practice wickets at Bice and the centre wicket at the Christies Beach High School.

All this work provides the preparation work to ensure our facilities are the best they can be for the season ahead. To all those volunteers that gave their time a big thankyou.
