Matty Overall Fundraiser...

Gala Dinner local cricketer Matt Overall

Last Friday 5th September at 7.30 at McCracken Country Club Convention Centre a Charity Auction and Gala Dinner for some 150 paying guests raising funds for Matt Overall to travel to the West Indies to represent Australia in the Under 16’s Cricket Team.

Guest speakers included Neil Dansie and Wayne “Flipper” Phillips. Sponsors for the special cricket evening included Andersons Solicitors, Granite Island Recreation and Nature Park, Parkinson Marketing, McCracken Country Club and Dodd & Page.

A charity auction including a silent auction raised in excess of $8,000 to help pay for Matt to travel to the West Indies.

Some 17 local and Adelaide based businesses and private sponsors donated over 40 items that were auctioned on the evening at the conference centre.

Some of the highlights of the evening included 80 year old Neil Dansie entertaining guests with his imaginative and thorough recall of past and present South Australian Cricket legends including Sir Donald Bradman and Sir Les Favell.

“Flipper” Phillips, ex coach of the Redbacks had the crowd in awe and laughter at his comical recollection of his career in Australia and overseas.

Matt and his team depart for the West Indies in early November for a 3 to 4 week tour including a test and one day games.

Matt offered a special thanks to the playing and coaching staff at the Port Elliot Cricket Club and Southern Stingrays District Cricket Club who have had significance on Matt’s early development as a budding cricketer and batsman. Former team mates and coaching staff attended the event.

A further highlight of the night was a huge birthday cake made by local cricket identity “Tubby” Gorge to celebrate Matts 16th Birthday.
