McIvor Scores SACA Rising Star Award for Round 11

In just his seventh XXXX Gold A Grade game, Sean McIvor continues to enjoy a magnificent start to his career at the top. The 22 year old currently sits 10th on the leader board for the XXXX Gold A Grade competition bowling tally, with 20 wickets and now with his second five wicket haul for the season.

In a battle for a finals birth, Southern District played host to Glenelg at Bice Oval. Sent in to bat by Glenelg’s Cullen Bailey, the Stingrays were in trouble early slumping to 3/15 before Nick Bowen (50) and Josh Barrett (27) showed some heroics with bat to get Southern out of trouble with a 67 run partnership to take the total to 3/82 before Barrett was dismissed. The Stingrays then lost their next three wickets for just seven runs. Some lower order hitting by Robbie McCard ensured the total reached triple figures, with the home side eventually dismissed for 122 with Tim Fernandez taking 6/35.

In reply, Glenelg lost the early wicket of Edward Senneck to be 1/7 before McIvor took the wicket of Wade Hancock and then the prized wicket of Bailey. Nathan Schollar (43) guided the Seahorses closer to the Stingrays total. Still requiring two more wickets for a Southern District victory, the home teams were unable to hold off Glenelg who were all out for 124 with McIvor taking the final wicket of Fernandez.

In 2009/10, McIvor represented the Seaford Rise Cricket Club and collected 34 wickets for the season. This season McIvor began in the XXXX Gold B Grade, played a couple of XXXX Gold Twenty20 matches before debuting in round six against Sturt. In this match he collected 4/54 from a mammoth 30 overs, whilst he took a further 5/52 against Woodville. Sean follows Josh Barrett who was the rising star nominee for round one.
