Round 6 Results

Round 6 and a Saturday/ Sunday match against Kensington. A Strong club and another tough challenge for our boys.

The A Grade ventured to Parkinson and on what looked to be a flat wicket we lost the toss and were in the field. The going was tough right from the start and the wicket offered no help to our seamers. Kensington batted patiently and finished the day 8/297 from 96 overs. Lewis Hatchett the stand out with the ball bowling 27 overs for figures of 4/58. Andrew Staunton also providing plenty of entertainment with the ball (2/69) and in finding out if a passer-by actually owned a dog.

Sunday saw us in pursuit of the total and at 1/70 at lunch things looked on track. However in the hour following lunch a few things went against us and we were staring down the barrel at 5/100. Brandon Gilmour however batted very well scoring 64 while Jack Kessell (21), Lewis Hatchett (20n.o.) and Tom Joraslafsky (26n.o.) all played important innings to ensure we finished the day with a draw at 8/238.

 

The B Grade at Bice Oval had a very tight encounter and a couple of outstanding individual performances. Batting First the score was 3/9 in no time and a rebuild required. Matthew Sugg scored 35 with skipper Justin Ifold 32 helping get the score back to 5/100. However it was the partnership between Sean Williams and Jason Riley which was match defining. Dubsy reaching his first senior half century eventually out for 54 while the old Fossil Riley ran out of partners and was left 95 not out. The final score would be 258.

Day 2 and the same 2 players would prove influential on the match. Kensington were 4/26 but recovered well to be 6/231. Sean Williams stepped up with ball though taking 7/46 from 19 overs to lead the B Grade to a 5 run victory and leave them with a 3-3 record. Old man Riley was at it again claiming four catches.

The C Grade entered round 6 with a new captain and were looking for their first win of the year. Blake Trigg won the toss and decided to have a bat and got contributions all the way down the order without a really big score. Chris O'Connor was the top scorer as he came back from his broken nose looking like Brad Pitt. He made 57 and helped the team reach a total of 204 which was always going to be around par.

It proved to be too much for Kensington as they were bowled out for 161. Josh Golding with 4/22 from 14 overs and Josiah Grzyb with 3/23 from 15 doing the damage and getting that first win of the season. It showed how much it meant in the singing of the song which could be well and truly heard on the bottom oval.

The D Grade looked to back up last weeks win but had a tough game being bowled out for 72 and being 8/135 in the second innings. Pushpinder Singh Taking 4 wickets and making a solid 50 in the second innings being the only highlight.

We play Northern Districts in a one day match this week. Make sure you get back to the club after the game and enjoy a drink or two with the rest of the club before we have a well earned break for Christmas.
