Sourced from SACA news blog 8/10/08

The Southern District Cricket Club has been acknowledged for their efforts in raising the awareness of mental health, by being announced as a winner at the 5th Annual Dr Margaret Tobin Awards held yesterday.

Last season the Southern District implemented a number a number of initiatives to celebrate ‘FeBLUary’ a month dedicated by the Stingrays to link with their metropolitan and country zones, as well as the national organisation beyondblue, to raise the awareness of the effect of depression in our community. Initiatives undertaken by Southern District included a change to blue coloured playing caps in all grades, blue stumps, a Twenty20 match against the Police ‘blues’ and club members wearing ‘Beyond Blue’ wristbands.

Such was the success of this promotion, all Grade Cricket Clubs have agreed to join in the ‘FeBLUary’ initiative in 2009. Subsequently, SACA has programmed the round of Grade Cricket on 7 and 14 February 2009 as the ‘FeBLUary Round’ where all Grade Cricket Clubs will work together to raise awareness of this important cause.

SACA congratulates the Southern District Cricket on achieving this special award.
